While similar to Pokémon, the mechanic of recruiting monsters is taken from Dragon Quest V. monster collecting games never really go out of fashion, and with the recent pokemon flop it could be a good time for sqex to contract a third party dev and capitalize on that. While still retaining similar battle mechanics, players instead use monsters to fight enemies, similar to the Pokemon games. not sure a new monsters game will come out for switch, but if it did it would obviously not be calling back to or referencing dragon warrior monsters in any way. Spinoffs from the popular Dragon Quest series, the Dragon Quest Monsters series offer new elements that allow for a different and enjoyable gameplay experience.
